Geospatial Systems, Inc. Announces Metric, Mid-Frame 39 Megapixel Camera for Airborne Mapping & Sensor Fusion Applications
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008
Rochester, NY - Geospatial Systems, Inc. (GSI), the makers of the TerraPix suite of modular airborne mapping and surveillance systems, today announced the introduction of the KCM-39, a new metric camera designed to enable direct georeferenced airborne mapping and sensor fusion with leading LIDAR systems.
The KCM-39 is a ruggedized, large format, 39 Megapixel (5412 x 7216 pixels), full-frame CCD Kinematic Camera Module that produces detailed, high-fidelity images in monochrome, color, or Color-IR. The KCM-39 includes a precision lens and opto-mechanical framework that is designed to maintain geometric precision under airborne operating conditions. In addition, the KCM-39 features the industry’s first field-replaceable shutter cassette. This patent-pending feature allows in-field replacement (with no recalibration needed) of the precision shutter mechanism with no impact on camera geometry or operation.
Like all KCM metric cameras in the modular product line, the KCM-39 is plug-and-play compatible with the TerraPix DGX line of direct-georeferenced sensor controllers. The TerraPix platform enables multiple camera configurations for wide-angle oblique or nadir imaging, and supports open standard connectivity and data dissemination. The addition of the KCM-39 allows users to capture large footprint imagery by combining multiple sensors and can be deployed with existing flight management and navigation systems, and final production workflow environments.
“GSI is pleased to bring to market a georeferenced 39 Megapixel camera complementing the TerraPix digital camera product line and enabling the efficient use of our customer’s remote sensing infrastructure,” said Maxime Elbaz, CEO, Geospatial Systems, Inc. “The ability to expand upon a common platform and receive additional capabilities without having to reinvest in an entirely new workflow provides a good business value.”
Applications of the 39 Megapixel module(s) include stand-alone imaging or sensor fusion with leading LIDAR systems. By adding a TerraPix system which includes the 39 Megapixel module(s), existing investments in navigation and LIDAR infrastructure can be leveraged to provide simultaneous capture of imagery and LIDAR. This has become a common request of the marketplace, and for applications such as corridor mapping, offers potential operational cost savings to customers and providers of mapping services.
